MC520 – Assignment Description

Guidelines for the MC520 paper (3500 words in total)

Part A (adapted from the course syllabus):

An overview of 10 church growth issues, selected from the course, providing a summary description of each followed by creative and critical reflections derived from class presentations and discussions coupled with your required reading. All seven books need to be referenced but without long quotations (1750 words).

Part B (adapted from slide 19 in the PowerPoint titled: “02-Report Ch Gr”):

  1. The setting of the church: community and cultural context (250 words). (See slide 5 in the PowerPoint titled: “09-How Churches Grow” and slides 17-18 in the PowerPoint titled: “08-Socio Found”.)
  2. A brief history of the church (250 words).
  3. Membership/Attendance graph and bar chart (include as an appendix). (See slides 9-28 in the PowerPoint titled: “02-Report Ch Gr”.) If another form of recording data is necessary, contact the Teaching Assistant (jwatson@outreach.ca).
  4. A description and diagnosis of the growth patterns (500 words). (See slides 2-5 and 18-20 in the PowerPoint titled: “09-How Churches Grow” andUnderstanding
    Church
    Growth.)

  5. An original evaluation of the church based on the data analyzed, and your assessment based on the Signs of Health (500 words). (See slide 3 in the PowerPoint titled: “06-Health” and Natural Church Development.)
  6. Your Faith Projection based on setting three specific goals (250 words).

(1750 words in total for Part B.)

Part A and Part B can be written independently, or the terms from Part A can be used as reference material for Part B (e.g., in the description and diagnosis of the growth patters and evaluation of the church).
